For the past two months, the prototype has been subjected to a series of dives and real world testing. Although we're still a few months away from release, I've received a number of emails requesting pictures of the puck, so here they are!
Do not get too attached to the following: 1) bezel insert (to be changed to a dark grey with brushed texture); 2) hour and minute hands (the final version will be brushed metal instead of the white); and 3) seconds hand (will be completely white with no black portion).
The bezel is fastened with 5 screws for easy maintenance. The teeth allow you to get a good grip with both wet and dry hands, but they're also designed to minimize accidental movement of the bezel:
And yes, your thick 24mm straps will fit the hooded lugs. Seen here on a 5mm Greg Stevens Crazy Horse:
Double-domed sapphire for distortion-free viewing at sharp angles:
The puck is the spiritual successor to the Holotype. No shiny bits, purpose-built, heavy industrial aesthetic with some ugly thrown in. It's 47mm in diameter and 15mm thick and feels quite balanced on the wrist.
November release y'all!
Call it the Halios Trench Commander. It looks like a real workhorse. Not quite the style I'd wear, but I can really see it being a winner. Great work. As awesome as the Laguna looks on brown leather, I'm not so sure on this one. It's begging for rubber/isofrane or a Zulu.
ReplyDeleteIs there going to be lume on the second hand?
If you're going to do a steel "3536 Aquatimer" on the hands (i.e. metal hands border and white seconds), why not throw in a similar milled 3536 bezel instead of the plastic looking lumed bezel insert? Solid bezels are much better looking. Another thing, the minute markings makes it look a little "noisy". Minute markings restricted to the first 15 minutes gives the bezel a cleaner look, emphasising the dial.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I REALLY like the look of that!
ReplyDeleteLooks good, but drop the superfluous helium valve and minute indices on the bezel.
ReplyDeleteWill the crown be protected as it looks like it could get snagged on something.
ReplyDeleteJason,
ReplyDeleteNice work, is it possible to do a GMT with the puck in the future and to keep the clean look would a embedded crown similar to Helsons Gauge watch work? Lots of good idea fairies out and about.
I do like your clean designs, keep it up.
Best,
Jim
Zulu pics, please!!! :P
ReplyDeleteJason,
ReplyDeleteAs for a milled bezel suggesion, try a bezel design such as seen on the Glycine Lagunare 3000.
What will be the engine for this puck ?
ReplyDeleteStaiiff
Probably [and unfortunately], the ubiquitous ETA 2324-2. My wish would be the ETA 2892-2, It has a stronger winding stem and better date change clutch.
ReplyDeletePlease make a titanium version with a milled bezel instead of the usual black bezel insert!
ReplyDeleteI want it !
ReplyDeleteI really love the look. I've always had my eye on lugless watches. I just love their clean, modern look. This design really speaks to my tastes.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I don't know if 47mm will be too large for my wrist, so I'll await some wrist shots before I pass final judgment. But so far, so good! I'm knew to the WIS world, and I must say that Halios is one of the few boutique brands that has really grabbed my attention with its unique designs.
Keep up the good work, Jason! For what it's worth: you've got my attention.
Jason
